For the author, children represent purity, sincerity, self respect and common sense. They are the essence of the very best in this world.
Most of the stories in "Demons" describe the reality in the country of Bolsheviks. This reality is absurd and surreal, that is why the story line plays a very important role. Averchenko creates a row of unique characters living in this nightmare world. People become shadowy images; however, the author forces his heroes, the demons, to live normal people's life...
The "Pantheon of Advice to Young People" was first published in 1924. In his light joking fashion, Averchenko offers his recommendations to young people as to how to conduct themselves among the members of any social group. Very often talented people cannot get ahead in life because they don't know any manners. The action is almost timeless. The author had chosen the common norms of behavior as the source of his comical irony...
