| | Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin (June 6 [O.S. May 26] 1799 – February 10 [O.S. January 29] 1837) was a Russian Romantic author whom many consider the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature. Pushkin pioneered the use of vernacular speech in his poems and plays, creating a style of storytelling—mixing drama, romance, and satire—associated with Russian literature ever since and greatly influencing later Russian writers.
It is hard to predict how Masha's love adventures in "The Snow Storm" end; or what the Silvio's duel from "The Shot" would lead to; or how would Lisa, who dressed as a peasant girl, would behave; or what is going to happen to Dunja, the daughter of the station manager... Pushkin's novels have it all: intrigue, memorable characters, unusual turn of events and, of course, love... It is probably not acceptable to call Puskin's "Dubrovsky" an action book, even greatly stretching the definition. At the same time, here we have all the necessary elements of the genre: a noble outlaw with a handful of loyal friends trying to reinstate justice with arms, clever deception of the enemies, beloved woman, who needs to be kidnapped... | | Be first to Rate!* | |
