The navigators of the rivers in the south of the United States shouted Mark Twain to indicate that there was sufficient depth so that their ships would not run aground. Mark Twain was the pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens for his stories and novels that portray, with a unique humor, the rural life at the end of the 19th century. The author was a sailor, journalist, and satirist who, with a sardonic style, knew to make descriptions that even in our days, are supposedly very sophisticated. His well known work, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and the sequel, "Huckleberry Finn" (both characters in his collections) are considered with justice as pinnacles of the novel of the United States and they have delighted and continue to delight generations of readers.
