Download MP3 sample file | | Be first to Rate this AudioBook!* | Arkady Averchenko, born on 27th March 1881 in Sevastopol, died on 12 March 1925 in Prague, was a Russian playwright and satirist. He published his stories in the journal "Satyricon", of which he was also an editor, in the series of "New Satyricon", and other publications - total of around 20 books. Satire of Averchenko can be described as liberal. After the Russian Civil War, he emigrated to the Central Europe and died in Prague.
Contemporaries named Averchenko the "king of laughter". Its novel "Joke of the Sponsor" is a comic, sometimes lyrical, cheerfully written story about a life of literary bohemia of Petersburg well familiar to the writer. Heroes of the novel cynically concerning a life involuntarily own hands destroy the fragile world of pleasures built by them. Their malicious joke turned on the human, fondly storing belief in people, in sincerity, in validity, in love, in fidelity, addresses against them.
